Two volunteer groups visited Greneway School in Royston yesterday (Wednesday) to create an exclusive wildflower mound - with a link to the 2012 London Olympics.

Volunteers from Royston and District Volunteer Group and Time Bank planted seeds, trees and plants, and carried out maintenance work in the surrounding protected grassland meadow. The mound was created using soil excavated from one of the development sites for the Olympics.

Meridian School sixth formers and children from Greneway School helped out, along with parents and friends, as part of the Community Service Volunteers Make a Difference Day 2008.

Denise Graham, volunteer centre manager for Royston and District said: "I am delighted that the Royston community continues to recognise the value of volunteering and I would like to thank our many volunteers for their support."
