A ROCK concert set up in memory of an Ashwell land lady has been dealt a blow after thieves stole a 10-foot promotional banner.
The banner promotes Clairefest, which raises money for cancer research, and was stolen from railings at the Tesco Extra car park in Stevenage.
Darrell Stanley launched the festival last year in memory of his wife Claire, a former landlady of The Three Tuns in Ashwell who died in 2010 from cancer, and said it was a low act.
“What they have done has jeopardised an event in aid of a good cause and cost the charity money,” he said.
He added whoever stole it came prepared.
“This was not an easy thing to do as it had 16 tie wraps which need to be cut with heavy duty cutters, so someone must have known what they were doing,” he said.
Police urged anyone with information about the crime to call the non-emergency number, 101 with crime reference E1/12/4902.
Tickets for the event, in aid of the Claire Stanley Trust which pays for equipment and life-saving research to treat cancer, can be bought at www.clairefest.org
It will take place on September 1 at Stevenage Arts and Leisure Centre.
