People in South Cambs wanting to try something new or rekindle an old hobby can go along to Foxton Bowls Club’s open day.

The next open day for the club – which plays on the recreation ground – is Sunday next week, April 30, from 2.30pm.

Club chairman Mike Mander said: “Outdoor green bowls still carries a stigma of being an old person’s sport, but when you bear in mind that the current men’s world champion is only 30 and from New Zealand and the pairs champions are of a similar age and from Australia, it is very apparent that down under the game is for everyone. They even play it at stag dos!”

There won’t be any serious coaching, but you will be able to try the game out weather permitting. There is no age limit and the club asks that you take along trainers or flat shoes for use on the green.
