Poile have been clamping down on dodgy motorists

MORE than 200 drivers in Cambridgeshire were caught speeding during a week-long crackdown.

Between Monday, August 20, and Sunday, August 26, police issued 214 drivers with £60 fines for speeding.

The initiative was part of a campaign across Europe organised by TISPOL (Traffic Information System Police).

Officers issued 61 tickets for speeding in a 30mph zone, four tickets in a 40mph zone, 60 in a 50mph zone, 76 on a national speed limit and dual carriageway, seven on a motorway and six tickets for the travelling above the limit for the class of vehicle.

Casualty reduction officer PC Steve Gedny said: “It is shocking to see there are still a number of drivers who think it is acceptable to speed on the county’s roads.

“Excessive speeding and inappropriate speed are the main contributions to avoidable collisions that result in death or serious injury.

“Those who break the speed limit are not only putting themselves at risk but also the lives of others.

“We will continue to work to make the county’s roads safer for everyone who uses them.”
