The Tories retain control of South Cambs District Council

The results of South Cambs District Council’s election are in with the Conservative Party retaining control of the authority.

The Tories now hold 33 seats, with the Liberal Democrats holding 16, Labour has one and seven Independent councillors make up the 57 seats in total.

Overall voter turnout was just under 35 per cent.

The overall make up of the council has not drastically changed with the Conservatives gaining one seat and Lib Dems losing two.

The results from the May 3 elections for Crow Country’s contested wards are:

Bassingbourn

Nigel Cathcart – Labour – 743 votes (elected)

Mark Holmes – Liberal Democrat – 34 votes

Peter Robinson – Conservative – 371 votes

Simon Saggers – Green Party. – 132 votes

Melbourn

Val Barrett – Conservative – 786 votes (elected)

Margaret Hunter – Liberal Democrat – 320 votes

Peter Sarris – Labour – 307 votes

The Mordens

Duncan Bullivant – Conservative – 142 votes

Cicely Murfitt – Independent – 549 votes (elected)

Angela Patrick – Labour – 60 votes

David Thurston – Liberal Democrat – 24 votes
