South Cambs MP Heidi Allen has picked up a prestigious accolade in relation to her work with a national disability charity.

Mrs Allen was presented with Sense’s Parliamentarian of the Year 2017 award in Birmingham on Friday.

She said: “I am honoured and deeply touched to receive Sense’s Parliamentarian of the Year.

“Sense is a truly amazing organisation, working tirelessly to improve the opportunities for people with incredibly complex needs.

“I look forward to continuing working in partnership with Sense to better support people with disabilities.”

The awards celebrate the achievements of deaf-blind people who have sensory impairments or complex needs, as well as campaigners and fundraisers.

Recently re-elected to the Work and Pensions select committee, Mrs Allen has been working with Sense for the last 12 months and was nominated for ”a consistent and effective advocate in Parliament for the needs of disabled people.”
