A Shepreth charity has appealed for members of the public who have enclosed gardens to come forward to help find an injured hedgehog a home.

Staff at Shepreth Wildlife Conservation Charity’s Hedgehog Hospital took in Alex – who then weighed 30g – and his five siblings last summer, after their nest was attacked by a dog.

His siblings were released back into the wild, but Alex had a serious wound to his back and now can’t curl up properly.

The hospital’s Becky Morley said: “Alex would be unable to protect himself from predators or to hibernate which is why he needs to live in a secure garden with someone to look after him.

“In response to our social media appeal we have had several people asking to see if their garden is suitable for him.

“This means that we will have some spare walled, secure sites for other disabled hedgehogs that will come into our care over the summer months.”

The hospital is approaching baby season shortly, and usually receive their first orphans in June. If you can donate to the hospital go to
