MERIDIAN School has become one of just 30 across the country to achieve a quality mark for business and economics.

The school, in Garden Walk, Royston, has been awarded the Economics, Business, and Enterprise Association quality mark.

Headteacher Dr Michael Firth said: "I am very proud of the whole department. To be so highly regarded by an external body is good news for the whole school."

In order to achieve the mark, the head of the business department Judith Hamilton worked under the guidance of seven consultants, reviewing the department's practice, and the reasoning driving that practice.

Schools that were deemed to have demonstrated effective engagement in the self evaluation process were awarded the kite mark to recognise their achievement.

Mrs Hamilton said: "We are delighted to have been awarded this kite mark. It was an exhausting but valuable process of self-evaluation.
