A Savers store has opened in Royston High Street, with the hope more shops will follow suit.

Customers flocked to the budget health and beauty shop – based at the site of the old Peacocks store near to the Angel Pavement shopping arcade – when it opened last week.

Savers area manager Richard Adams told the Crow the store will have a positive effect on the town.

He said: “Our new venture is great for local people, with great brands at super prices. We aim to bring an alternate market place, which will add to an already excellent environment.

“We encourage shoppers to come in to Royston High Street, and see our wonderful selection of products.”

Clive Porter, chairman of the Save Royston Town Centre group, believes the opening of the store will encourage more footfall into the town.

He said: “With the arrival of this national name, we now stand a much better chance in seeing some of the other empty units being filled.

“As well as this dramatically positive step forward, we also must welcome the new gents hairdressers just down the road, and thanks to the hard work of the market manager, the Wednesday market is looking more like its old self once again.”
