Royston woman’s brown bin not collected for six weeks

A Royston woman has described the waste collection services in North Herts as “disgraceful”, having been left with an uncollected garden waste bin for six weeks.
In June, Beverley Fulton paid North Herts District Council’s £40 garden waste collection fee, but has not had her bin in Shakespeare emptied since.
She said: “I was sent a confirmation via email, and I’ve been waiting ever since to have my bin emptied.
“I’ve spoken to two waste collection workers, and even told them I had proof that I had paid.
“He said he ‘didn’t want to see it’. He was very rude, and that was that.”
Beverley says she has emailed and phoned the council several times, but had no response.
She also tried to show the waste collectors from Urbaser her email to prove she’d paid.
After the Crow asked Urbaser about the issue, the firm said it appeared the resident had inputed the wrong door number – something Beverley refutes.
A spokesman for Urbaser has since shown the Crow evidence this is the case, and said: “I can only apologise if crews were rude, however, they have taken a lot of abuse from disgruntled residents over the garden waste matter.
“We have updated the account to correct the address and are arranging a collection to clear any backlog. After this, the collections will occur on the scheduled day.“
Councillor Michael Weeks, NHDC’s executive member for waste and recycling, also confirmed that this has been corrected and Beverley will have her brown bin emptied in the future.
He added: “We urge residents to get in touch with us directly if they have any similar issues and we will be able to investigate further.”
