Royston town centre road closure to last two weeks while pipework is replaced

Roadworks have begun today in Royston town centre and a road will be closed for at least the next two weeks while they are completed.

Herts County Council has closed King Street and Upper King Street to enable workers from Affinity Water to replace old pipework.

An Affinity Water spokesman said: “We have been working in the Royston area to replace ageing pipework that has reached the end of its useful life to ensure a reliable water supply for our customers in the future.

“As part of this work, we will be working in Upper King Street from the junction of Melbourn Street from May 22. We aim to complete this section of the work by June 5.

“A road closure has been put in place to ensure the safety of commuters and our technicians working to improve the network.

“We are sorry for any inconvenience this work may cause and would like to thank customers for their patience.”
