Pupils at Royston’s Studlands Rise First School have been busy celebrating the school’s 40th birthday.

They spent two weeks learning about the history of the school and what was happening in the wider world over the past 40 years.

The celebrations started with a special assembly led by all four previous heads, Jonathan Downes, Dennis Edmonds, Karen Green and Jan Cooper.

The children learned how the first pupils were taught at Icknield Walk First School as the Studlands Rise building was not complete.

They also had a lot of fun hearing about the favourite memories of the previous heads. The celebrations culminated with the children helping to plant 40 saplings that will form the school’s Ruby Forest.

The school also hosted a reunion for past pupils, staff and governors which was very well attended.

Current headteacher Alison Doke said: “There has been a real buzz of excitement in school as the children have learnt all about its history. They especially enjoyed the visit from the previous headteachers.”
