The museum put on Discovery Days and one theme was on the military and for another session, on space, the museum was joined by members of the Letchworth & District Astronomical Society.

Museum curator Adam Culling said: “This was great opportunity for children to discover the military history of Royston.

“I could describe how uncomfortable and heavy the uniforms and weapons that soldiers from Royston would have used during the first and second world wars, but actually handling and wearing these items themselves has a far greater impact on the children.

“Sharon and Robin from the astronomical society were fantastic,” Adam said.

“Not only did they bring with them a selection telescopes and other astronomy equipment, but they were also on hand to answer any questions the children – and adults – had about space and astronomy.”
