Royston Loo Flush with Success

A public toilet in Royston was given a special award last week.

The facility at Fish Hill car park was given a plaque to recognise its statues as a winner in the national Loo of the Year Awards.

The award is given on grounds of signage, décor and maintenance, fixtures and fittings, cleanliness, hygiene equipment, air quality, security and added value, and confirms the toilet as one of the best in the UK.

Councillor Peter Burt, North Herts District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Waste and Recycling said: “Keeping toilets clean is not a complicated business, but it does require a certain commitment from those who use and look after them.

“The plaque we have put in place today is recognition that for anyone who visits the Fish Hill facilities, they are guaranteed the best seat in town.”

The facility, situated next to Priory Gardens, was given four star status, the highest award a public toilet can gain without a full time attendant.

The toilets receive between 3,500 and 4,000 visits every month.
