An appeal for information has been launched

A GUARD was struck by a rock hurled from a bridge at Royston Train Station sparking a police appeal.

The attack took place at around 8.55pm on the station platform as the 34-year-old waited to see a train off.

He was knocked to the floor and left with bruising on his head.

PC Tony Orton, the investigating officer, said: “The victim, a 34-year-old from the local area, was struck by an object, thought to be a rock, thrown from Kneesworth Street road bridge.”

Police have conducted a number of local enquiries and are investigating whether CCTV in the area could reveal new leads.

“Station staff should be able to go about their work without fear of anti-social behaviour or attacks like this. We’ll be stepping up patrols in the area to try and catch the person responsible,” added PC Orton.

“At this stage it isn’t clear whether the person responsible was alone or part of a group but I’d urge anyone who saw the incident, or who witnessed anyone running away from the scene, to come forward.”
