Residents urged to sign up for super-fast broadband

SUPERFAST broadband could come to Royston if more residents and businesses show an interest in a new scheme.

Hertfordshire County Council will be starting work with broadband providers this month to try and demonstrate the demand there is in county for faster internet services.

But the local authority says more residents in North Herts need to sign up online to back their bid.

Cllr Robert Gordon, leader of Hertfordshire County Council, said: “It really is crucial for residents and businesses in North Herts to sign up at www.superfastforherts.org before it’s too late. There are areas which currently have little or no broadband, and where commercial organisations have no plans to provide the service.

“Faster broadband allows families to access multiple devices at the same time and makes businesses much more competitive.”

In total 8,300 people in the county have signed up to support the scheme.

Residents can check their current internet connection speed and register their interest to receive superfast broadband at www.superfastforherts.org There is no obligation to buy superfast broadband services if they become available.
