Pirates to take over Royston

Visitors to Royston today should be on the lookout for pirates.
From 10am to 4pm the town will have its first pirate fun day at 53 High Street, opposite the end of Angel Pavement, with activities such as walking-the-plank, juggling, badge making and face painting on offer.
Those who fancy themselves as treasure hunters will be provided with a map and clues and have the chance to test their metal with a treasure trail around the town centre.
There will also be a fancy dress competition with the best outfits featuring in a pirate photo gallery.
Royston Town Manager, Geraint Burnell, said: “This is the first time we’ve staged a pirate day. The central attraction is the treasure trail which is designed on a similar basis to our Easter Trail and Rudolph’s Trail at Christmas.
“We just hope that families come into Royston for the day, enjoy the activities and perhaps sample the shops, restaurants and play facilities available in the town centre.”
All activities are free, but children will need to be accompanied by parents at all times.
