CAMPAIGNERS fighting to save a village pub hope its closure will be short-lived.
As reported in the Crow last week, The Three Tuns in Guilden Morden closed on Sunday, with brewery Greene King having put the site up for sale.
Villagers are keen to see it reopen, and have started a petition requesting that the brewery put a new tenant in for six months so the village can prove its support for the pub.
Dennis Tear, from The Three Tuns Rescue Group, said: “These are tough times for the pub industry and we understand the dilemma of Greene King. Clearly they need to make money and we’re keen as a community to work with them to ensure that’s the case.
“The petition will demonstrate the passion local people feel about their pub. If Greene King manage to find the right tenant for six months, the village can prove it with their support.”
Greene King will be reviewing the prospects of the business over the next few weeks. A spokesman said the firm are committed to running “high-quality” pubs, and that the decision to close The Three Tuns had been a “difficult” one.
