Outstanding students were honoured at a school’s presentation evening.

Meridian School held it’s annual celebration before Christmas, and students, staff and parents present heard from guest speaker Professor Michael Thorne, Vice Chancellor of Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge.

Awards were given in a host of categories, with Nathan Coote picking up the prize for outstanding performance at GCSE level, with Suzie Brown receiving the award for most outstanding performance in A-Levels.

The evening also saw all last year’s GCSE and A-Level students collect their certificates.

David Atkins, assistant headteacher, said: “This is such a special evening, when all of the students who worked so hard over the past few years receive the rewards for their efforts. It is important and right that they have their personal recognition”.

This year a new award was introduced in memory of Paul Bushell, an English teacher at the school who died suddenly in the summer of 2012 from a brain tumour. The inaugural winner of the Paul Bushell Award for English was Sam Cooper.
