CROW country’s MPs were divided on the issue of gay marriage after the House of Commons voted through a bill to allow same-sex unions.

MPs approved the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) bill by 400 to 175 after a day of debate at Westminster. Royston’s Conservative MP Oliver Heald was one of the 175 members opposed to the bill.

But another Tory, South Cambridgeshire’s representative Andrew Lansley, backed the controversial proposals.
