A motorcylist was seriously hurt in a hit-and-run on the A1198 in Bassingbourn-cum-Kneesworth at the weekend, with police now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

The motorcycle was involved in a collision with what is thought to be a silver Volkswagen Golf in Old North Road, close to the junction with Chestnut Lane, at about 12.30am on Saturday morning.

A police spokeswoman said the motorcylist sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash, and the driver of the car did not stop at the scene.

An ambulance was called but was stood down, as the man – believed to be in his 20s – was taken to hospital by a relative.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information about it should contact Cambs police on 101 quoting CC-27052017-0022.
