Residents at a Meldreth care home specialising in dementia have raised £1,600 with a fundraising walk.

The team from Maycroft Care Home in the High Street completed the 2km walk in aid of Alzheimer’s Research UK, a cause close to their hearts, with the help of relatives and staff.

Gerald Brackley and Carol Bradshaw, who both live at Maycroft, handed a cheque for £1,601.90 to Dr Steve Andrews of the Alzheimer’s Research UK Cambridge Drug Discovery Institute.

Manager Lynn Ward said: “We are very proud to have raised more than £1,600. Our target had been £1,000 and we never believed the total raised could be so high.

“The residents were thrilled, and enjoyed meeting Dr Andrews when he spoke about the work researching new drugs to help with the fight against dementia.

“We’re already planning our second walk, for which our goal is to raise £2,500, as the residents, relatives and staff enjoyed it so much.”
