A councillor has toasted the success of a community hub that opened in Melbourn this year.

Melbourn Community Hub on High Street, which contains a library, cafe, snack bar, meeting spaces for mothers and toddlers and parish council offices, has been in use since February.

Councillor Jose Hales, district and parish councillor for Melbourn said “The building is a fantastic asset for the village and is booked out for all kinds of activities that were not possible before.

“The Hub has, as I dreamed of, become the ‘centre’ of the village and a place to meet and of enquiry.

“I have always said from the beginning of the project, that I wanted to be standing in the queue in the supermarket and hear someone say they wanted to meet a friend ‘down the Hub’.

“Well that happened a couple of months ago and I barely contained myself.”

The building was part of a wider development by Hundred Houses, which owns the land where the hub is built, on the former police station site.

Hundred Houses chief executive Chris Jackson said: “It was a joy to work closely with the parish council and deliver a sustainable building that is serving the village so well.”
