A MAN was hospitalised after he became stuck down in a pit in Barley on Monday.

The East of England Ambulance Service were alerted to the High Street after a report of a man injured down a workshop’s pit reached them at 2.20pm.

Ambulance crews from Buntingford, Letchworth, the trusts hazardous area response team (HART) and the East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA) attended the scene.

Ambulance service spokesman Gary Sanderson said: “We believe the man in his 20s was working down the pit when he was struck by an object on his head.

“When our fast response paramedic arrived at the scene, he quickly called upon the assistance of the HART team and helicopter medics as it was going to be difficult removing him to ground level.

“The man was complaining of head and neck pains.”

“The man was stabilised and immobilised on a special rescue stretcher before he was lifted to safety by the HART team. Following further assessments by paramedics and a doctor from the air ambulance, he was taken by land ambulance to Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridgeshire.”
