London mayor Boris Johnson has announced that he will be standing for MP in the 2015 general election.

The Conservative has been linked with a number of parliamentary seats, including South Cambridgeshire, which is currently occupied by MP Andrew Lansley.

Mr Lansley said he will step down from Parliament next year, when he will attempt to find an international role. The former cabinet minister announced his plans after he was replaced as leader of the House of Commons by foreign secretary William Hague in a reshuffle last month.

Mr Johnson revealed his decision today, and said he would serve as London mayor until 2016.
