A Norse-style takeover saw more than 200 visitors flock to Royston and District Museum on Saturday for some family-friendly fun.

Kids and adults alike enjoyed learning about battle techniques and what life was like in a Viking settlement from Heydon’s re-enactment group in Royston Museum’s courtyard.

Inside, the children took part in arts and craft activities with museum assistant Jenny Benton, who helped them make brooches and design rune puzzles.

“I got the chance to dress up as a Viking which was great fun,” said Jenny. “It was a fantastic day with smiles all round.”

Highlights for the youngsters, including four-year-old Jeremy Whitford, were dressing up as Viking warriors and building their own mini long-boats to take home.

If you’re still wanting more museum fun, a final Crafty Kids session is to be held at 10.30am on Wednesday, August 31. There is also lots lined up for September with Heritage Open Days including Tudor Day and Carnival activities for Royston Arts Festival.
