Councillor Lynda Needham says she is pleased with last night's election results.

The leader of North Herts District Council has said she is ‘extremely pleased’ with the Conservatives’ overall performance in yesterday’s elections, and hopes it will be a ‘good barometer’ for the upcoming General Election.

The Tories kept hold of seven of their county council seats, making one gain from Labour – but that was slightly tinged by a loss to the Liberal Democrats. Councillor Lynda Needham, the Conservative leader for the North Herts Conservatives, told the Comet: “The two district by-election seats (Hitchin Priory and Royston Heath) came about in sad circumstances, but we won them both and with the sort of majority we had before so we’re very pleased about that.

“With regards to the county council elections, I was extremely pleased that we took Letchworth North but equally disappointed that Royston Rural went to the Liberal Democrats in what was one of the closest contests of the night.”

About of the upcoming General Election on June 8, she added: “I’m hoping it’s a good barometer of what we will happen in five weeks’ time, but we were very clear on the doorstep that we were campaigning for the county council and district seats, not for the General Election.”
