It appears there is a little more flexibility than first thought on recycling rigid plastics.

Hertfordshire County Council announced today that it will be possible to recycle rigid plastics again at its Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) from bank holiday Monday.

On April 27, the council announced a temporary stoppage in the service due to difficulties marketing the materials.

The decision was followed by an outcry from some campaigners and councillors.

A spokesperson for the council said today: “We are pleased to announce that our contractor, Amey, will start collecting rigid plastics again at all HWRCs from Monday 28 May.

“A temporary suspension had been in place due to difficulties in marketing the rigid plastics waste stream.

“However, this situation has now been resolved.”

Rigid plastics include things like toys, garden furniture, and storage crates.

For more information on what rigid plastics you can recycle, see www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/waste or see displays at HWRCs.
