Great Northern has said it will be running short-term timetable amendments today (May 27) meaning fewer trains will be in operation.

Several trains serving Welwyn Garden City, Stevenage and Royston have already been cancelled, including some to London King’s Cross and Cambridge.

Services from St Albans to Brighton and Bedford – scheduled for 10.29 and 10.59 – will also no longer run.

It follows widespread disruption yesterday, during which commuters were being advised not to travel, and its Twitter account – usually available to respond to queries – became unmanned due to “unforeseen circumstances”.

Commuters were once again left furious by the service, which has been blighted by cancellations and delays since Great Northern’s new timetable was unveiled earlier this month.
