A globetrotting chef from Bassingbourn is travelling to India to showcase his curry-cooking skills.

And while taking curry to India may sound like trying to sell ice to Eskimos, Altaf Hussain is looking forward to being part of a team of six top chefs travelling to Hyderabad for a 10-day curry festival, which started yesterday (Thursday).

Mr Hussain, master chef at Yuva Fine Fusion in Bassingbourn, will be cooking for guests at the festival and showing off the best of British curry.

He said: “It’s a great honour to be selected and I’m looking forward to cooking for a new audience, especially in India which has such a great tradition of food.

“I’ve been working on a few signature dishes including curried fish with boroi (type of Indian plumb) and rosemary flavoured chicken tikka. I like to experiment and look forward to exchanging ideas with other chefs so I can bring some ideas back to try on customers here.”

Mr Hussain had previously represented the UK at a curry festival in Slovenia.
