The headteacher of Meridian School in Royston has praised his “exceptional” students on GCSE results day.

62 per cent of students gained A* to C grades in five subjects, including maths and English, which was a one per cent increase on last year. While 22 per cent of all grades were A*s and As.

Star performers included:

James Palmer: 10A*s, 1A

Holly Brewster: 7A*s, 3As

Annabel Gee: 6A*s, 3As 1B

Gus Rees: 5A*s, 4As, 1B

Leah Parcell: 3A*s, 6As, 1B

Head Teacher Dr Michael Firth said: “These results are very much deserved for this exceptional group of students who have worked hard throughout their years at Meridian.

“Bright, enthusiastic and a pleasure to teach – we couldn’t be more proud for them, their families and all who have contributed to this achievement. The increased number of higher grades is testament to students working with staff to achieve the highest level.

“We look forward to welcoming so many of them back in September when they start A level courses in the Meridian Sixth Form.”
