Daffodils were in full bloom as a village attracted more than 7,000 visitors to its annual flower festival.

The Thriplow Daffodil Weekend gave visitors the opportunity to tour the village’s open gardens, views its attractions and taste a variety of food on offer.

The two-day event, in its 46th year, featured more than 100 craft and rural stalls as well as a miniature steam railway, heavy horse dray rides, vintage vehicles and Morris dancing.

Event organiser Dan Murton said: “It was a really fantastic event this year. We had more than 40 coaches arrive on both days with people coming from as far as Droitwich in Worcestershire to visit the village.

“Everybody seemed to have a really good time and we’ve had loads of really nice emails from stallholders saying how great the weekend was.

“This year we expanded the Taste of Triplow part of the festival which featured live music and all sorts of food from Caribbean chicken to bread stalls.

“I think this brought in a younger crowd and we’re looking to expand this part of the festival for next year while still keeping all the traditional elements.

“All in all it was a great two days and at an initial estimate we managed to raise over £20,000 for charity.”

Money raised from the festival went to Home Start Royston and South Cambridgeshire, a family support group.
