The great and good celebrate the opening of the flag pole.

ROYSTON town was last week gifted its first ever flag emblazoned with the town’s crest at a ceremony celebrating 50 years of a club.

The Rotary Club of Royston marked the diamond milestone by opening a new community flag pole in the award winning Priory Memorial Gardens attended by the great and good of the town.

Oliver Heald, the town’s MP, said: “It is fantastic that the rotary club is celebrating it’s 50th anniversary. i think it is very appropriate that they have given the town something which all community groups can use to celebrate various events.

“I’m delighted to be here and take part in a great celebration.”

The flag pole can be used by any club in the town as long as they contact the club and its president Chris Hardy gave a speech to officially open it.

“It puts our stamp on the town because when there is no one flag there, it will be the rotary flag flying,” he told the Crow.
