The opening of Royston’s £3.8m rail underpass has been pushed back after work was held up by April’s poor weather.

It was due to be finished this month and when completed will link Royston between the Burns Road estate and Green Street.

Hertfordshire County Council is working with Birse Rail on the project, dubbed the Coombes Hole by residents.

A council spokesman said: “Unfortunately there will be a slight delay in the opening of the underpass, this was due to the poor weather experienced in April impacting on our contractors’ opportunity to finish aspects of the outstanding work.

“We are pleased that all work is now on track and as long as we do not experience any further heavy rain, we aim to open the underpass on June 27.”

The opening was previously pushed back after contractors found minor corrections while snagging.
