‘Don’t panic’ is the message from Hertfordshire County Council to students who will be getting their GCSE results this morning.

The county council is reminding students and parents there is help widely available if needed.

Schools will have members of staff available to talk through choices, whether students have exceeded their expectations, had a change of heart about what to do next, or are looking at the options just in case the news isn’t what they hoped. There is also the option to re-sit exams if need be.

Councillor Chris Hayward, responsible for education and skills on HCC’s cabinet, said: “I appreciate this is an anxious time for all concerned, and would like to wish Hertfordshire’s students the very best of luck for today.

“Whatever the outcome when you open those envelopes, there are plenty of options in education and training. Dedicated people will be on-hand to give you all the advice you need.”

The county council is advising parents and carers to talk to their children about their options, and offer to take them to collect their results so future plans can be adjusted if needed.
