A curry chef will be demonstrating his culinary skills at an international festival as part of a delegation showcasing British curry cuisine.

Altaf Hussain, master chef at Yuva Fine Fusion in Old North Road, Bassingbourn-cum-Kneesworth, has been chosen as one of six British curry chefs to travel to the Taste of Britain Curry Festival, which is taking place in the Slovenian capital, Ljubljana, next month.

Mr Hussain said: “It’s a great honour to be selected and I’m really looking forward to cooking for a new audience, especially in the region, which has very few curry houses.”

The 40-year-old was selected by Curry Life magazine to participate in the festival, and he and his team-mates will produce the British variety of 50 curry dishes, such as chicken tikka massala, jalfrezi and balti dishes at the festival, giving diners a unique opportunity to taste an exclusive selection of British curry dishes.

“I’ve been working on a few signature dishes including Jenju – chicken dish cooked in tamarind, crushed green chilli paste and
pickles,” said Mr Hussain.

“I heard they are going to be cold out there in February and I’m assuming diners will probably enjoy something hot and spicy.”

The Taste of Britain Curry Festival promotes British curry all over the world, and has previously been held in India, Malaysia, and
in the Middle East.

Festival director Syed Belal Ahmed said: “Curry is as British as strawberry jam and cricket and we are keen to promote that to the rest of the world. It’s an industry that generates hundreds of millions of pounds every year as well as giving diners a lot of pleasure.”
