A SNOOZING shepherd was the star of an unusual take on the nativity story performed by pupils at a village school.

Children at Reed First School performed their nativity play, The Sleepy Shepherd, to an audience of parents last week.

It told the story of a loveable shepherd who just can’t keep awake, as well as recounting the familiar Christmas story through a series of catchy songs.

Headteacher Jackie Harvey said the school was grateful to Royston Tesco, which supplied eight angel and shepherd costumes for the show.

“It was a play enjoyed by audiences as well as those who took part,” she said.

Collections were held at each of the performances and raised £108.81 for Jimmy’s Night Shelter in Cambridge.
