Angels Support Group was awarded a £1,250 grant by North Herts District Council’s Royston area committee at its meeting last month.

As reported in October, the group, which provides practical support for parents and carers of children who suffer with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), fears it will have to cut back on services from next year when a fixed-term grant of £40,000 from Hertfordshire County Council comes to an end.

Leise Cooper, parent support manager of Angels Support Group said: ”We are very grateful for this grant. We have recently lost our funding for all our support groups and this grant will help us to keep the Royston support group running while we secure alternative long term funding for it.

“It’s great for our families to know they are supported by our local councillors and community.”

Angels operates across North Herts and Stevenage and runs regular support groups in various locations, including Royston, providing one-to-one telephone and email support and holiday activities for the children and their siblings.

The area committee grant will be used to contribute towards staffing costs, travel expenses and other overheads associated with running the Royston-based support group at The Extended Services Centre, Roysia Middle School with a crèche at The Royston and Villages Children’s Centre, until April 2014.

Cllr Bill Davidson, vice-chairman of the area committee said: “Angels Support Group provides invaluable support and services which help families throughout North Herts whose lives are affected by behavioural disorders.

“The support group offers advice and resources to help families manage and understand the condition, which is why we are happy to support such a worthwhile charity.”
