Herts Police are warning businessmen and women not to fall prey to a threatening message in which the sender demands a sum of money.

Herts Police have received numerous reports of threatening messages being sent to business people across Hertfordshire and beyond.

Herts Police have sent out their own warning about the scam to neighbourhood watch groups.

Watch Liaison officer Derrick Sweeney wrote to residents: “The message begins with ‘read this text carefully, since it can be the last in your life’.

“The sender states that they have been paid to kill you by one of your ‘envious’ business rivals, and that to ‘save your life’ you should send a sum of money to an anonymous Bitcoin account.

“The sender goes on to say that they will be travelling to the UK to carry out this threat and the message ends with ‘the well-being of the future life depends on your choice. Think about your life, you family.’

“It appears that this message has been sent to a large number of recipients across the UK with the intention that some people will be frightened into sending money.”

Police are urging recipients of the message to visit www.herts.police.uk/contact to report it.

You can also call police on the non-emergency number 101.
