Cambridgeshire Police are appealing for information after a 64-year-old man from Bassingbourn was punched in the head several times.

A 64-year-old man was punched in the head several times in Bassingbourn after confronting a cyclist he believed had stolen money from a tray outside his home.

The victim followed the man in his car after seeing him take cash that had been left by members of the public in exchange for bags of apples outside his house at around 4pm on Friday, September 26.

He caught up with him in Fen Road – near to the junction with Shadbury Lane – and, as he got out of his car, the cyclist punched him several times. He was not seriously injured but was left shaken by the attack.

The offender is described as white, around 40 years old, about 5ft 6in and of a slim build. He was wearing a baseball cap, a brown T-shirt with white writing across the chest and was riding a road bike.

PC Emma Smith said: “This was a nasty assault and the victim was left shocked and shaken by the attack.

“I would particularly like to speak to a man in a blue van who came to the victim’s aid and a woman who was driving a red car who stopped to speak to the victim.”

Anyone with information can call PC Smith on police non-emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
