SPECIALLY designed gates for a Melbourn cemetery were officially opened last weekend.
The metal art work was produced by renowned artisan Matthew Lane Sanderson who worked on the Corpus Clock’ at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge.
Around 80 villagers attended Saturday’s unveiling at The New Road Ceremony.
Donald Mowatt, chairman of Melbourn Parish Council, officially opened the gates.
“Words alone cannot describe my absolute delight; the gates will touch the hearts of all,” he said.
The gates were inspired by ancient artefacts, from Anglo Saxon excavations in the village - which were also displayed after the ribbon cutting in an exhibition which revealed how the gate was produced.
