Appeal for witnesses following fatal motorcycle collision on A505

POLICE are appealing for information following a fatal road traffic collision which resulted in a man losing his life.

The accident happened on Sunday (September 2nd) on the A505 between Royston and Baldock.

The collision occurred shortly before 3pm when four motorcycles had been travelling towards Baldock.

One of the bikes, a blue Yamaha had travelled over the bridge and negotiated the roundabout to the north of the A505 and on exiting the roundabout to travel back over the bridge the rider had, for reasons unknown at this time, lost control and travelled to the opposing carriageway before colliding with another motorbike, a Green Kawasaki.

The driver of the Yamaha died at the scene.

Pc Terry Nesbitt, from the Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire roads policing unit, who is investigating the incident, said: “This was a tragic incident which has sadly resulted in a man losing his life. We are still trying to establish the facts of what happened on Sunday afternoon and I am appealing to anyone who may have information, or who may have witnessed anything to get in touch.

“I am particularly keen to speak with the driver of an old Toyota Corolla estate which had just left the A505 travelling from Royston, going towards Baldock. This car stopped at the scene of the collision and we believe the driver would have witnessed the collision,” he added.
