To celebrate both the launch of Cheltenham Festival and Apprenticeship Week, there is a call-out for young people to get involved in the horse racing profession, like Ana Rodriguez Marray, based in Royston.

The job market is strong at the moment and demand for qualified, experienced and committed staff is high.

Ana Rodriguez Marray, is a 23-year-old apprentice stud hand, based at Newsells Park Stud, just south of Royston.

Ana said this week: “I truly believe that the experience I am gaining will help with my future career.

“I think the most important skills to have are dedication, to be willing, and to be a team player.

“Most importantly, people need to remember that this is a lifestyle choice – it isn’t just a career.”

Zoe Elliott of Careers In Racing, a campaign run by the British Horseracing Authority, said : “An apprenticeship is the perfect way to start off in the exciting world of horse racing.

“It can lead to a rewarding career and is the perfect way to rise to the top.”
