A tale of two sewing machines at the latest Royston repair cafe
17:35 28 July 2014
The latest Royston Repair Café was a tale of two sewing machines.
Volunteer repairers John Bennett and Dermot Byrne were successful in fixing both the machines, which were brought to the repair café when it was held at the Market Hill rooms, Royston, on Sunday.
Rosie Lewis saw her manual sewing brought back to working order by Dermot.
She said: “I can’t tell you how happy I am – I’m so grateful for the help - it saved me a lot of money.”
Sue Oddy arrived with her older but equally loved sewing machine and a jammed needle mechanism. This time repairer John came to the rescue and in 50 minutes, he too was successful in mending Sue’s machine.
The sewing machines were two of the 16 broken items brought in for assessment at the repair cafe. Five were fixed, two were taken away for further work, and everyone went away happy and better informed about the idea of repairing rather than throwing items.
The next repair café will be held at the end of October. Visit www.facebook.com/RoystonRepairCafe for further details.
