Police have named the elderly motorcyclist who died in a crash near Melbourn on Saturday afternoon – and revealed that the driver of the car involved has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The collision between a black Kawasaki motorcycle and a silver Citroen Xsara Picasso happened at about 3.30pm at a roundabout on the A10 between Melbourn and Royston.

The rider of the motorcycle was 75-year-old Anthony Taylor, of Deer Park Way in Waltham Abbey. He died at the scene.

The driver of the Picasso, a 44-year-old woman from London, was arrested on Saturday night on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

She had been travelling with two children, and all three were taken to Adenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge for treatment to slight injuries.

Now she has been bailed to return to Parkside police station in the city on Thursday, July 28.

PC James Thorne, from the Beds, Cambs and Herts road policing unit, said: “I am keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or saw either of the vehicles in the moments leading up to it.

“I am particularly keen to trace a small red car which was travelling behind two motorcycles on the A10 around the time of the collision as I believe the driver will be a key witness.”

Anyone with information should call the road policing unit on 101.
