Traders, crafters, charities and community groups are invited to secure their pitch for a stall at next year's Barkway Village Market.

This year's market was described by organisers as an "outstanding success", after a two-year break due to the pandemic.

There were a record number of stalls and more than 4,000 people attended, which meant a total of over £11,170 was raised - an increase of 40 per cent from 2018/2019.

The church also raised a record amount at their refreshments and barbecue stall, and the Friends of Barkway Church raised £1,560 at their bottle stall.

Other donations were raised by the school and preschool, who pooled their resources to provide refreshments, and by the scouts - who ran the car park and collected more than £1,300 in donations in exchange for parking.

A spokesperson from Barkway Village Hall committee said: "All in all a total of £19,406 was raised on the day by all of the local charities involved, with which every volunteer - of which there are many - who contributed their time should be very pleased. Thank you!"

Since 1999 the market has been organised by the Barkway Village Hall committee, with funds from the market helping to maintain the hall's facilities.

The 2022 market saw a wider distribution of funds among the community due to the substantial increase in revenue.

After the market, the village hall received £6,795. Other funds went to the 7th Royston Barkway Scout Group, who received a £2,500 donation to go towards replacing their scout hut.

The remaining funds were split between Barkway's Parish Pantry and the Barkway Preschool, who run a weekly playgroup from the village hall.

The 2023 market will take place on Saturday, May 13 from 10am to 4pm.

A stall in the grounds of Manor Farm is £35 - reduced to £30 if booked before January 31 - and a craft stall in the church is £20, or £25 if you require a table. Only crafters can book a stall in the church.
