Under 16 Division One

Letchworth Eagles Reds 0 Knebworth Youth Panthers 3

KNEBWORTH Youth Panthers were away at Letchworth in league action last weekend.

The Panthers hadn't played the week before due to a waterlogged pitch and the week off showed with their all-round performance.

Despite the game starting slowly and scrappy Knebworth took the lead within five minutes when a corner from Jack Baker was kept alive by both Grant Seals and Jordan Angus and was scrambled in from two yards by Shane Carthy.

The following 20 minutes of the game were untidy with chances at a premium.

Just before the half time break Knebworth doubled their lead with a coolly placed shot by Angus after being put through by Carthy.

At half time Knebworth coach Michael Fortune made four changes to try and change the lethargic game, bringing on both David Ezeigbo and Lewis Whitehead on the wings with Casey Paine and Rhami Nanou up front.

Although the reinforcements worked hard the game still lacked quality. The match then got slightly heated after a succession of late tackles, which seemed to egg on the Panthers. The game was killed off with 15 minutes to go when Pat Anyadi passed the ball into the bottom right corner from the edge of the area.

The 3-0 scoreline slightly flatters the Panthers who have every reason to be disappointed with their performance which was far from the usual slick, flowing and committed standard. Knebworth will look to improve their all round display next week in the league cup with a more committed performance.
