Under-13s Division Three

THIS was a tough test for Fairlands who were playing their first game against the top teams in the league.

With Markhall currently sitting top of the division and with a superior goal difference the game was always going to be hard for Fairlands and so it proved.

However, it was Daniel Keegan who opened the scoring after several minutes when a shot at the 'keeper did not bounce and rolled between his legs.

With Fairlands playing their new formation, any attempts from the away side to play football in the middle of the field were cancelled out with Joe Gerrard, Connor Malins and Max Homewood working hard to limit the amount of time their opponents had on the ball.

Yet they were able to find a breakthrough soon enough when they equalised, and with 10 minutes left in the half a scramble in the Fairlands' area resulted in a clearance to a Markhall player who placed the ball home from 10 yards.

The second half become much more open and chances were limited for both teams.

Fairlands only had three opportunities to score, but were unable to make the most of them, whereas Markhall also chances and took all of them to take all the three points.

The game was much closer than the score suggests and the Fairlands players proved they can compete with the best teams in the league.

It is clear to see all players are making progress and at times can pull defences apart with good football.
