Melbourn held their own in the first half, passing the ball well and having their fair share of the possession. Strong in midfield, Ryan Barton was pivotal in Melbourn’s attacks, picking up the ball and finding gaps in the Elsenham defence.

Elsenham had big boots though, giving their front line numerous long balls to run onto, finding the net twice before the break.

Melbourn fought back well, and were rewarded when a neat pass from Theo Windred found striker Matthew Morris who did well to get past the Elsenham keeper to score Melbourn’s first.

With another Elsenham goal taking the score to 3-1, Melbourn stayed calm, with Player of the Match Sean Lodge keeping them in contention with some outstanding defending.

Patiently looking for a way through, Melbourn eventually found the feet of Matthew Morris, who again did well to bring Melbourn a second. But with five minutes to go, Elsenham found another gear, scoring four superb goals in rapid succession, leaving Melbourn with no answer.
