BOTH teams played well but had to settle for a point in this close encounter at the Rec on Sunday.
Bassingbourn started the brighter of the two sides and raced into a 2-0 lead thanks to a long range strike from Sam Lay and a neat close range finish from Arthur Baigent but Blacks kept pressing and managed to peg Whites back with a crucial goal just before the break, just when it looked like Whites would run away with the game.
In the second half, Blacks upped their game and scored an early equalizer before Bassingbourn regained the advantage when Andy Jones lobbed the keeper with a delicate finish.
Blacks pushed hard to level the scores and only some great saves from Charlie Catton in the Bassingbourn goal and some strong defence from Lay, Collet-Sinfield and Wright kept them at bay, but just when it looked like Whites would hold on to record a fifth straight win, Blacks broke away to level the scores.
Bassingbourn U10 Reds 5 Letchworth U10 Oranges 0
REDS returned to winning ways with a convincing 5-0 win over Letchworth Oranges.
In an exciting first half, both teams played some great football and were it not for some excellent defensive play both teams could have scored a hatful of goals.
The first goal was always going to be important and Reds got the breakthrough when returning striker Josh Thurlby stooped to head in a corner mid way through the half.
The goal galvanised reds in the second half and as Letchworth pushed for an equalizer Bassingbourn broke quickly and decisively. First Thurlby completed his hat-trick with two lovely individual goals, and then Joe Failletiaz smashed home a fourth, before Thurlby ran through the defence and chipped the ball over the 'keeper.
Oranges pushed hard for a consolation goal but their finishing didn't quite match their approach play and Reds were worthy winners in the end.
